Founded in 1956 as “Mendip Morris Men” this group performs Morris Dance around the North Somerset area. The repertoire is predominantly in the Cotswold style from South West England, but also includes Border dances, North-West clog dances and North East sword dances. In summer, they perform at pubs or iconic locations, often in the company of neighbouring morris dance teams. In the winter months they practise on Monday evenings, 8 – 10 pm at the War Memorial Hall in Congresbury. Many of the meetings, summer or winter, seem to end up in a pub – singing and making music! Mendip Morris has a long history of travel to foreign events throughout Europe, as well as attendance at shows and festivals around Britain.
